This Day in UFO History- UFO Battle Over Nuremberg--1561

April 14th, 1561, the skies over Nuremberg, Germany were quite a sight. UFOs battled it out as astonished residents looked skyward. Or there might have been some tainted grain. Ergotism, a condition  caused by eating breads made with rye grain that has been tainted with a particular species of black mold, which is the original source of LSD, has been blamed for a number of weird mass hysterias, including the Salem witch trials. I can tell you this, however: witch sightings in these parts aren't from eating moldy bread. Whatever the cause, though, the Nuremberg case is interesting.
…the dreadful apparition filled the morning sky with cylindrical shapes from which emerged black, red, orange and blue-white spheres that darted about. Between the spheres, there were crosses with the color of blood. This frightful spectacle was witnessed by “numerous men and women.” Afterwards, a black, spear-like object appeared. The author of the Gazette warned that “the God-fearing will by no means discard these signs, but will take it to heart as a warning of their merciful Father in heaven, will mend their lives and faithfully beg God, that he avert His wrath, including the well-deserved punishment, on us, so that we may, temporarily here and perpetually there, live as His children.”

A Stinky Sock Spider Eating a Wingless Fly

Some of you may remember the wingless fly post, or not. Now, we have word that a certain African spider likes smelly socks, but here's the thing: Doesn't it kinda seem like the smelly sock spider is eating the wingless fly? That can't be good.

Psychologist Says We Remember Things BEFORE They Happen

"It's a poor sort of memory that only works backwards."

He's done experiments in which future events have been shown to influence memory. It's some pretty interesting stuff.
One of the most respected, senior and widely published professors of psychology, Daryl Bem of Cornell, has just published an article that suggests that people — ordinary people — can be altered by experiences they haven't had yet. Time, he suggests, is leaking. The Future has slipped, unannounced, into the Present. And he thinks he can prove it.

If a Fly Can't Fly Can We Still Call it a Fly?

Here you see the world's only known fly that can't actually fly. It's called a hairy fly, and it lives only on one rock in Kenya and there are rumors that the colony was started by a guy from West Texas named Jim who managed to get on  a certain Wickidity practitioner's bad side. But that's not the real point. The main thing we're interested in is whether or not it can properly be called a fly, since the fly is a creature whose name implies an activity that this critter isn't actually capable of. How to Custom Make a Ghost From Scratch

This is a terribly interesting development that we're thinking of trying to replicate in the Black Mansion as soon as we settle on just what sort of ghostie we'd like to have. A group of people got together and decided to make up a ghost and see if that ghost would subsequently arrive. They came up with a name, a back story and even did some drawings. Then they began visualizing their ghost, eventually holding seances. It wasn't long before they were getting responses from the ghost in the form of rapping on the table and answering questions by rapping once for 'yes' and twice for 'no.'

We're thinking we'd like a nice ghost rather than one that likes to show up looking like a screaming skeleton like the one pictured here. Maybe a nun.

Darned Interesting: Quantum Entanglement

Physicists have long been puzzled over a mystical link between particles called entanglement – and now they've established this bizarre connection in a new experiment.

When two or more particles are entangled, they retain a connection even if separated across an entire galaxy. If an action is performed on one particle, its linked partner will also respond.
